Curlew RW NW present at Paddy's Pool, RSPB Saltholme on 06/04/2016 & 08/04/2016 and maybe still present.

Quote
The combination RW NW was unfortunately used on three birds by error and not just the one individual was the intention. Those three birds were ringed at Seal Sands on 29th July 1991, 5th February 1992 and 18th August 1994.  All were adults (at least one year old).  This means the individual you recorded was at least 23 years old and possibly 27 years or older.  This exceeds are our longevity record for a colour-ringed bird at Teesmouth which was 22 years and 5 months old as a minimum. The national record is 32 years and 7 months.

RW NW was last seen at Saltholme in December 2015.  However this was the first sighting since July 1999 prior to which I regularly recoded the bird at roost on Seal Sands or using coastal fields.  This drop off in the recording of RW NW is most likely reflects marked reduction in observation effort with the disbandment of our research team at Durham University in 2001. Observations would suggested that RW NW is primarily a coastal field feeder in and around Teesmouth during the non-breeding season.

All sightings (with dates and locations) of new and previously recorded colour-ringed individuals are very much wanted and appreciated so as to maintain the life histories of these birds which are submitted to the BTO for entry into the National Ringing Scheme Database for research conservation.  Back dated colour-ring sighting data is also much appreciated.

Curlew on Seaton Common this morning. GL GN

QuoteGL GN was ringed, metal ring only, on Seal Sands as a one year old bird on 22nd July 2006.
It was re-captured on 21/07/2012 at Seal Sands and the colour-rings added.
Your sighting this morning is the first since the recapture suggesting it may be a spring and autumn passage bird to the Tees.

Old bird OY NY was still on Seaton Common this morning.

Ringed - Seaton Common 07/09/1991

QuoteOY NY ringed on 7th September 1991 as a juvenile bird (BTO ring no. FC48911). The bird remained using Seal Sands & Seaton Common throughout the winter and when over-summering and moulting during 1992 as a first summer.  Sightings would suggest it emigrated in it?s second summer sometime after 22nd March 1993, returning by 5th July.  Thereafter it was generally recorded on Seal Sands during the late summer/autumn (July - August) and then again late winter (January ? April)

I reported a Sandwich Tern on Parton Rocks on 6/9/2014 (yeah I know) and just heard back now - been some issues with inboxes etc but they replying to all mails.

Lime green ring - L-NAP lettering - was ringed as a juvenile on the Slijkplaat in the Netherlands in June 2014.

No other sightings.

They will have a new GUI up and running soon.  Will stick a link in as and when he advises.

Mute Swan seen from the Wildlife Watchpoint at Saltholme on 22nd April 2016, with Red CXL leg ring.  Reply from Andy Rickeard at North East Swan Study,

"It's great to know that this bird is still alive and well after nearly 20 years.

CXL is very much a Teesside bird having been ringed at Haverton Hole as 1 of 3 cygnets on 24/08/1996.  I have several records of CXL on the River Tees at Stockton, but my last record before yours was also at Saltholme on 01/12/2011."

Black-tailed Godwit colour ringed YN OB was at Greatham Creek on 13/03/2016.

It was also present at Phil Stead Hide on 23/08/2015 - so it stopped off here heading south and then as it was returning north.

At Paddy's Pool on 1st June.

Colour ringed - yellow 2X4H

Confirmed by ringers that's it's from the Dublin ringing scheme. Though possibly ringed by them in Northumberland. Awaiting full details.

Just heard back from the ringers -

Ringed as pulli - 14/06/2015 Coquet Island, Northhumberland

QuoteMany thanks for the sighting 2X4H is one of 4 pulli that were ringed at Coquest Island in Northhumberland last June by Chris Redfern. We know that 3 of the birds are still definitley alive from sightings.

I attach its life history which is short but we will gain more information over time. I expect that this bird may be a bit of a wanderer as it wont be breeding in its first year. Meds tend to be quite site faithful so hopefully 2X4H will return to you in future years.

This evening I came across a colour ringed Little Egret on Tidal Pool. Luckily it came closer when it moved to Saline Lagoon where it joined two other Little Egrets, one a juvenile.

Left tibia - red with white letter F

Right tibia - yellow with black letter T

Previous years we've had similar RY cr birds which have been from North Cotes in Lincolnshire.

IanF

FT (above) was on Back Saltholme this morning.

Another colour ringed Little Egret was at Phil Stead Hide.

Red - F
Yellow - K

Likely another North Cotes bird.
