Hi another ringed Avocet at Saltholme on Saturday 20th May.

YB LG has been around since late April, more usually at Tidal Pool though lately at Saltholme. Ringed locally 17/05/2010 so it's one of the oldest cr birds.

WB NR was also at Saltholme hide yesterday. Ringed locally 2015

Jacksons Landing last night - herring gull Y792

It?s a bird which was colour-ringed ringed at Harewood Whin landfill site, to the west of York, (53.960 -1.177). The bird was caught using a Cannon Net and is one of around 1750 Gulls which have been caught and colour ringed to date.
Harewood Whin is one of the decreasing number of Landfill sites in the UK where it is possible to operate for the catching and ringing of gulls. Whilst with us the gulls feed on the Landfill site during the day and roost on the floods in Lower Derwent Valley National Nature Reserve or on the Humber Estuary.
The bird was rung on 4th November 2016 and yours is the first sighting since it was rung

Hi Ian I had a colour ringed curlew on North Gare road this afternoon.
It was orange over yellow left tibia and white over metal left tarsis
black over yellow right tibia

IanF

A good find Brian. I've not seen any colour ringed ones yet. It must be one of the first ones back.

That's one is the oldest birds we get back each year.

OY NY was ringed locally on 7th September 1991 as a juvenile bird (BTO ring no. FC48911). The bird remained using Seal Sands & Seaton Common throughout the winter and when over-summering and moulting during 1992 as a first summer. It's returned almost every year since.

I think I have also seen this Sandwich Tern but this time at Marske beach. It was together with around 20 Terns which included the one identified as ETL in the Common Birds section. The current one also has a yellow dye on the neck. Unfortunately the ring code is not clear.

Rob. I believe around a dozen birds were dyed/colour ringed in this fashion over a couple of days. Hard to say for sure but this looks like a different bird from the one I saw.

Greylag Goose at Saltholme hide with a neck collar which was red with three letters PYV.  Sighted 25th September.

IanF

Was it definitely red or could it have been orange?

What colour were the letters?

Any leg rings seen as well if the feet could be seen?

An orange neckband with three letters would fit a scheme from Scotland for Icelandic birds.

IanF

One of seven Sandwich Terns on the rocks by Heugh breakwater on 30th September 2017.
