I was wondering if anybody could help me?

My friend took this snap of a herring gull about 4-5 years ago in Scarborough. I know it was a long time ago but I just wondered if anybody had any info about it? Would be interesting to know where it was ringed and if it has been seen since etc.

Thank you.

To be certain and for it's full history you'd have to submit the sighting to the BTO - http://blx1.bto.org/euring/lang/pages/colourform.jsp?coord=KTPedersen@snm.ku.dk

However we've had quite a few similarly coloured/coded rings (orange on black) turn up locally. They were all birds ringed on landfill sites around the Scarborough area - so that's where it's likely to be from - scheme details here - http://www.cr-birding.org/node/379 -usually I email Sara Bone for such sightings.

These are some of the results from earlier in the year taken from this thread - http://www.teesmouthbc.com/forumtbc/index.php?topic=3867.15

Herring Gull sighted 08/02/2012 on Seaton Common with yellow darvic coded 1711.

Herring Gull with orange ring (now faded to yellow), number 1711 was ringed on the 16th March 2007 on Seamer Carr landfill, near Scarborough (TA038820) as a second winter bird with metal BTO ring number GN13872. I have received no other sightings of this bird since it was ringed.

Two other orange coded darvic Herring Gulls sighted over last week are likely to be from the same location.

2.       Herring Gull with orange ring 2201 was also ringed on the 30th January 2009 on Seamer Carr landfill, as a first winter with metal BTO ring number GC65765. Again I have received no sightings of this bird since it was ringed.

3.       Herring Gull with orange ring 1711 (now faded to yellow) was ringed on the 16th March 2007 on Seamer Carr landfill as a second winter bird, with metal BTO ring number GN13872. Thank you for the info. I will contact the BTO as well to see if I can get a full history on it.  ;D
