Another colour ringed Curlew on Seaton Common.

QuoteMany thanks for the colour-ring sighting of "RN GW" which was ringed as an adult on 29th August 2000 at Seal Sands.

Last seen in December 2009 on Seaton Common, a site it has regularly frequented over high water in the past, where you recorded it in March 2008.  In autumn, the bird has been recorded at low tide feeding on Bran Sands and Seal Sands.  There has been no winter records of this bird away from Seaton Common to date.

For those interested, took this at Washington WWT yesterday. The ring reads E2 and there were 8 avocets present, this was the only one ringed.

Of the 43 Avocets present on the saline lagoon yesterday 2 were colour ringed.

EG25238 - Red/Blue left,  Red/Red right
EG25239 - Yellow/Blue left, Lime/Orange right

Siblings 2/2 ringed on greenabella 31.5.10

Good evidence to show they travel/migrate in family groups as we had two siblings last year. Getting some great results back from this project so please keep an eye out for more colour ringed birds when you're out and about

Nice to see results of ringing.

"My guess would be that it is a bird that was ringed in Coto Doñana in Spain"
Do I get a prize then Toby?

TobyAW

Unfortunately James if you were to get a prize then everyobody else would have to get one too. Will hopefully reward you all with some more cracking birds this year if that's ok? :)

Another of 2010's Avcets was on the tidal pool on Saturday evening

EG25229 - Yellow/Blue left, Lime/Niger right.

A colour ringed Cormorant was at Crookfoot Reservoir this morning. It was swimming/feeding/flying within Cleveland but hauled itself out in County Durham  ;)

Orange darvic on left tarsus with black letters CP3. Metal BTO type ring on it's right tarsus - unread.

I've reported it to the BTO but it appears similar to those used in the UK.

I'll update this when/if I receive a response.

Edit: Update with ringing result -

QuoteThis individual (metal ring G1402) was ringed as a chick at Abberton Reservoir, Essex (OS TL9617) on the 14th May 2011, as part of a project coordinated by
Jez Blackburn here at the BTO. I have forwarded this to Jez for his records.

Since this time, I have received just one other report of this bird, also from Crookfoot Res. from Thomas Francis you mentioned from the 18th March 2012.

There's now at least five colour ringed Avocets in the Greatham Creek area.

RW OG was ringed (BTO ring FC48905) on 29th July 1991 at Seal Sands and aged as an 'adult' (first summer or older). Prior to this winter RW OG was last recorded on 19th November 2009 when I observed it feeding at Seaton Common.  I've previously recorded this bird on only three occasions, twice on Bran Sands (14/12/00 & 12/09/07) and Seaton Common (13/12/00).
