Friday 12th Dec. Gull roost, Ferry Road, ports land. Sitting on the ground among other gulls, so complete view not possible, was a larger-than-herring gull with a classic glaucous-shape head and bill, long pink and with a distinct black tip. Could not see the primaries or most. of the body. The plumage I could see was a little darker than I expect, but some glaucous can be like this apparently until January. Have seen two recent reports now of glaucous gull in Cleveland. Do these relate to Hartlepool please?

Visiting my father who lives in Acklam Road in Middlesbrough, we were awoken yesterday by a large bang on our upstairs bedroom window. Looking out we saw a Goshawk on the patio below, grappling with a large pigeon. The hawk proceeded (over the following half hour) to eat the pigeon. Magpies arrived, hoping for a share, but the hawk was not in a generous mood! It retreated with what was left of the carcass to a flower bed. I later cleaned up - little remained of the pigeon.

Yesterday (Monday) 3pm, Runswick Bay: on the beach about 2/3rds along to the east, with two Dunlins, a Baird's Sandpiper. Smaller and more rakish than the Ds, shortish slender straight bill. Overall brownish with very scaly mantle. Dark rump. Wingtips well beyond tailtip! Dark legs. I got poor photos but showing the features, which I can send... to whom? Have seen this species in America, but been birding for 65 years... so very familiar with it from photos, etc.!

Hi, I was on some land just outside of Dilston yesterday with a friend of mine, and there was an buzzard size bird flow passed us. I pointed out to my friend to see the bird that the bird had a white head. I can only guess it was a sea eagle.
